Well well, Mr. Bradley -- hast thou said too much? During an analyst call today the outspoken head of HP's Personal System Group confirmed that it's sent more than 200 employees to work at Palm.... and then casually mentioned that HP will have "a webOS-powered PalmPad that will be set for release early in 2011." The last few months have been busy ones for the Hotmail crew, and they're continuing to push new features to their users. The latest round of upgrades includes enhanced folder options, built-in package tracking, embedded video playback, and a rather significant upgrade to Messenger.
Hotmail users can now chat with their Facebook friends from the comfort of their inbox -- if I had my druthers, I'd pick Facebook integration instead of AIM in Gmail. As for the package tracking, detailed information will be presented right below any FedEx tracking IDs while DHL and UPS will be linked to the appropriate tracking pages on their respective sites.
The massive photo attachment update which rolled out in the U.S. has now gone global, giving all Hotmail users the ability to include up to 10GB of photos per email. [ed note -- do any of you send that many photos in a single message? Cripes!]
Two new sites have also been added to Hotmail's built-in playback feature: Justin.tv and Dailymotion. Organization buffs, Microsoft hasn't forgotten about you -- you can now create sub-folders to aid in your quest for the perfectly-arranged inbox!

Konami's Road Fighters 3D hits Japan's arcades
We know it's tough to deal with the sorry state of arcades these days, but they're still thriving in Japan, and Konami has just announced one more reason to be jealous in the form of Road Fighters 3D. As you can see, that's actual 3D complete with 3D glasses, although the game can apparently also be played in 2D if you're not quite ready to experience "one of the most thrilling arcade racing experiences on the planet." Keeping up with other modern arcade machines, the game also has an online multiplayer mode, and it incorporates Konami's PASELI digital cash system so you don't have to worry about having enough change. Look for it to hit arcades in Japan by the end of the month.

Typing Speed Monitor for Google Chrome keeps tabs on your keyboarding prowess

Ever finished firing off a lengthy email and wondered, "Dang, I wish I knew how many WPM that was"? No, me either. But still, as a guy who writes a lot and often gets asked by people how fast I can type I just may give Typing Speed Monitor for Google Chrome a try and see what it tells me.
Install the extension and it takes residence in your browser actions area. As you type, it'll record your speed and monitor how often you press each key. In addition to good ol' QWERTY, Dvorak and Colemak keyboard layouts are also supported. TSM's pop-up heatmap provides detailed stats about your typing including CPM, WPM, total time, and keypresses per key.
No, 61 really isn't that great... But go easy on me, it's six o'clock in the morning and I haven't had any coffee yet.

Yammer Debuts A Facebook For The Enterprise
Yammer, which launched as the "Twitter for businesses" at TechCrunch 50 in 2008, is launching the next-gen version of its platform today. Aiming to be a full-fledged social network for the enterprise, Yammer 2.0 is being released today at TechCrunch Disrupt. As we wrote in our initial review of the new platform, Yammer is adding a number of applications to its platform that increases its functionality beyond just a communications platform.

BlackBerry PlayBook vs. iPad vs. Galaxy Tab vs. Streak: the tale of the tape
What a day -- yesterday, that is. Research in Motion finally announced its long-awaited BlackBerry tablet, the 7-inch PlayBook (thankfully not named the BlackPad). While there's still quite a few missing details, and nary an unit in site for us to try first-hand, we've still got a sampling of specs for this little guy to go tête-à-tête on the quantitative field of proverbial battle, at least as it can be seen so far (that early 2011 release date is still a ways off). Looks very promising so far, lined up against Apple's iPad, Samsung's Galaxy Tab, and the Dell Streak, but our known unknowns -- i.e. price, app support, and overall feel of using the QNX-built operating system -- are what will really make or break the slate. Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 11 review
Sure, the word is that ultraportables - or 11- to 13-inch laptops - aren't selling particularly well, but that hasn't stopped Lenovo. In fact, the company's had a particular obsession with 11.6-inch lappies over the last six months or so, but sadly each has massively disappointed. Adamantly claiming not to be a netbook, there was first the ThinkPad X100e, which we found to be great in terms of design and size, but seriously hurting (literally!) in thermals and endurance. Then there was the IdeaPad U160, which packed Core i7 CPU power, but had a rather dreadful three hours of battery life. But the third time's got to be the charm, right? The ThinkPad Edge 11 has the same chassis as the other Edge laptops, which hold a special place in our heart, but is powered by an ultra-low voltage 1.33GHz Core i3 U380 processor, 2GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive. It's not too shabby for its $549 starting price (the AMD-powered version starts at $449), but has Lenovo learned from the past? Is this the 11-inch notbook (our new term for a machine that looks like a netbook, but is way more powerful) to rival the rest? Read on to find out in our full review. elRTE is a comprehensive, free rich text editor for the Web

Formatting text for the Web is an ongoing quest. HTML has a fairly steep learning curve, but people still need to blog, comment, and somehow format text.
Personally, I'm a huge Markdown fan. In my opinion, if you're trying to write a blog post with formatting that can't be expressed in Markdown you're putting too much emphasis on the formatting.
Still, not everyone likes Markdown, and sometimes circumstances call for a rich, visual content editing control. There are a ton of such controls floating around (with CKEditor being the best-known one), but elRTE seems like a worthy contender.
One of the things I like about it is that you get a bottom bar that shows you exactly where you are in the document hierarchy (i.e., "div > table > tbody > tr > td"). Also, all of the dialogs (for adding tables, images, etc.) are comprehensive, and each provides a ton of options.
Again, I don't think it's a control that I would personally use, because it's huge (some might even say "bloated"). Netflix now streams unlimited TV and movies in Canada for $7.99 per month

As a Canadian living about 600 miles from the nearest metropolitan center, this is huge news: Netflix has opened its doors in Canada. The service is streaming-only -- no rentals by mail as in the U.S. -- but I'll take it.
For $7.99 a month, Canadians can watch all the TV shows and movies they want via their Wii, PS3, or PC -- Xbox 360 support is coming soon. Better still, your first month of Netflix viewing won't cost you a cent. The selection here in Canada isn't nearly what it is in the States, but that will certainly improve in time.

RIM's BlackBerry Developer Conference is going down this week in San Francisco, and as you might expect from a developer-focused event, there are a handful of newsy items that'll affect the development community first and consumers down the road. Here's a roundup of what's what:
WebWorks development platform. From what we've heard of this so far, it's basically a quick way for web devs to get into the BlackBerry app game by offering a tightly-integrated platform for HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript code with hooks to native BlackBerry OS functions and a packager for turning them into "real" BlackBerry apps.
BlackBerry Messenger Social Platform. RIM's historically held BBM very, very close to the chest, but it's starting to open up a tad with this particular announce. Don't look for BBM on other platforms (yes, we know that's what some of you were hoping to hear), but third-party app developers will now be able to tap into the system for sending and receiving messages, files, user profiles, and invitations. Interestingly, the company is pitching it as a platform for multiplayer gaming, using BBM as a conduit to move information between devices in real time.
BlackBerry Advertising Service. Google bought AdMob and Apple bought Quattro, but RIM's taking a more democratic approach to its advertising platform, allowing both "simple" and "rich media" ads to be served from a handful of providers "with only three lines of code." It'll be a 60 / 40 revenue split between devs and RIM.
BlackBerry Payment Service SDK. This one's launching in beta this week, bringing third-party in-app payments over credit card, PayPal, and carrier billing (available on AT&T right now, more carriers by the end of the year). It'll be out of beta before 2010's out.

Acer Aspire TimelineX series updated with new processor options
It really does feel like it was just yesterday that Acer released its new TimelineX series, but believe it or not, it's processor upgrade time for the thin and light lappie line. The 11.6-inch Aspire TimelineX 1830T will now be available with ultra-low voltage Core i3, i5 and i7 CPU options, though Acer's pushing the $900 Core i7 680UM-powered version (the 1830T-68U118) rather hard. If you're looking for that sort of power in a 3.1-pound chassis, it's not all that bad of a deal, especially considering the similarly spec'd Lenovo IdeaPad U160 costs north of $1,000. We are a bit skeptical of Acer's eight hour battery life claim on that one, however. The other TimelineX machines -- the 13.3-inch 3820T, 14-inch 4820T and the 15.6-inch 5820T -- are also being injected with more standard voltage Core i3 and i5 processor options, and those will start around the $700 mark. All the new models should be available at retailers soon, and those dying for some more configuration details should hit the break for the full press release. iStreamer: A Unique, Timeline-based App For Watching The Social Stream
iStreamer by AllOfMe is an iPad app that offers a realtime, timeline-based stream of data from social and RSS feeds as well as images and search keywords. Designed to make it actually kind of fun to browse your friends' feeds, the app is fully touch-controlled and lets you get a birds'-eye - or worms'-eye - view of your streams.

McAfee launches a -- yawn -- short URL service

McAfee has decided to get in to the short URL game. Why? Possibly because they were looking for an additional reason for techies to loathe them -- if there's one thing more hated than craptacular software, it's yet another URL truncator.
The theory is that people will use McAfee's short URL service because the links are managed by a trusted recognized security company. I'll say this for mcaf.ee: their landing page sure is salmon-colored. Beyond that, this is just another ho-hum link shortener -- they're not even the first provider to offer "safe" links. Bit.ly has been working with Websense and Sophos since late last year.
I don't know about you, but if I was McAfee, I'd be more concerned about making sure my next definition update didn't brick corporate computers. Or maybe I'd work a little harder to ensure my security suite actually gets certified by AV-Test -- you know, like Webroot managed to do.

You may not have known about it, but Google Reader has a pretty slick feature that allows you to subscribe to any page -- even one without an RSS feed. When the page is updated, it'll appear in your unread Reader items. At least, it will until September 30th.
Google has announced that they're shutting down the tracker service, and it's not a complete shocker. My results with it were never that good -- pages I had subscribed to often changed multiple times, and I never received an alert.

How would you change Dell's Streak?
Oh, sure -- our international contemporaries have been toying with the Dell Streak for the better part of 2010, but Americans have just recently had their equal opportunity to indulge. It's a mini tablet, or a huge phone. Or both. And sometimes neither. But whatever the case may be on any given Sunday, the 5-inch Streak has caused more of a stir for the folks in Round Rock than any product since the Adamo. For those who eagerly pre-ordered and then not-so-eagerly paid the credit bill upon receipt, we're interested in knowing exactly how things are going so far. Arduino Uno and Arduino Mega 2560 get friendly new USB plugs, new look
Arduino is so much about what is made with Arduino boards that we hardly spare a thought for the boards themselves. Well, Arduino cares, and they've just gone about redesigning their base model, now dubbed the Arduino Uno. It's of course backwards compatible with existing Arduino add-ons, but sets itself apart with a new USB controller with lower latency and driver-free operation on Mac and Linux. This should make Arduino slightly more friendly to the super novices, but of course the USB chip can be reprogrammed by the experts to be all sorts of things. Meanwhile, the Arduino Mega is getting the same USB chip along with an ATMega2560 processor with twice the memory. Right now only 128K is available, but that's a software limitation and they're working to unlock the rest of the memory space. The Mega sells for $65, while the Uno goes for $35. Next up? An Arduino board with built-in Ethernet and microSD. Crazy, we know. Instead of another boring lecture, last week my students at UC-Berkeley got quite a treat: a lively discussion with TechCrunch founder Mike Arrington. I once described Mike as a cross between Oprah Winfrey and Howard Stern; so I was ready for a little controversy. But he ended up lighting such a big fire, that I?ve been bombarded with questions from students about their education and careers. The questions aren?t just coming from Berkeley; after the discussion was posted on TechCrunch, students at Duke asked me to discuss this at a keynote I am giving at their entrepreneurship symposium on Wednesday; and students at other schools, from as far as India and Singapore, have asked for advice. �So I?ll just respond here in the hope of quenching this fire.

Attaboy, DoJ! Out of (almost) nowhere, the United States Department of Justice announced today that it was requiring six well-known technology outfits to stop entering into "anticompetitive employee solicitation agreements," and we're guessing you will have heard just a few of these names: Adobe, Apple, Google, Intel, Intuit and Pixar. As the story goes, these six companies were all mixed up (but not all together, mind you) in agreements that forbid each other from cold calling employees from a rival firm in order to offer them a different job.
According to the DoJ, those arrangements acted as a "significant form of competition to attract highly skilled employees," and it has now filed a civil antitrust complaint today along with a proposed settlement that, "if approved by the court, would resolve the lawsuit." We're also told that some of the agreements were put into place as early as 2005, and they were "formed and actively managed by senior executives of these companies." Yikes. Archos 32 Internet Tablet review
With there now being five (oh yes, five!) Archos Android Internet Tablets on the market, it's understandably hard to keep 'em all straight, but in our minds the 32 is easy to separate from the rest - it, along with the 28, is more of an Android PMP than anything else. With 3.2 inches of resistive touchscreen, the 32 packs the specs of a typical media player: 8GB of storage, media player software with support for loads of audio and video formats, and a VGA camera. But unlike most, it runs Android 2.1 (2.2 will be a firmware update, we're told), which adds quite a bit more functionality in terms of applications and web browsing. And it's also got an accelerometer for playing games. At $150, it seems like a pretty good deal, especially when you consider that it's cheaper than an iPod Touch or even a Zune HD (depending on where you're shopping), but there are a few issues that may hold you back from forking over the cash. Avaya intros business-oriented A175 tablet, shows off Flare user interface
Avaya's not a name you generally hear when circling the consumer electronics water cooler, and even though it just introduced a new tablet, you still won't ever see this guy in Target, Best Buy or Walmart. Expected to cost between $1,500 and $2,000, this 11.5-inch enterprise tablet is designed primarily to be used at a cubicle, doubling as a SIP phone and tripling as an office collaboration tool. Dubbed a "Polycom killer" more than an iPad killer, this unit relies on Aura 6.0 and the newly designed Flare user interface (detailed in the video past the break), which enables touchscreen operation and supports multi-user video calling, email, web browsing and support for Android applications. Specs wise, it's "slightly thicker than an iPad," has a trio of USB 2.0 ports, inbuilt WiFi, 3G / 4G WWAN support and an integrated battery for those days when you simply have to clock in from the comfort of Venice Beach. Sony holding Google TV event on October 12
We'd definitely been hearing that Google TV would be hitting sometime in the next month or so, and here we go: Sony's sending out invites for an October 12 event in New York. Internet Explorer 9 final will require Windows 7 SP1 -- Update: no, it won't.

Chances are you don't have the Windows 7 SP1 beta installed. You may very well, however, have Internet Explorer 9 -- apart from a handful of hotfixes, no major updates are required to test drive the new browser.
However, it's been decided that you're going to need Windows 7 SP1 installed before you can pop in the final version of IE9. Microsoft has yet to announce release dates for either SP1 or IE9, of course, but it's safe to assume that the service pack will arrive first based on the TechNet posting where the SP1 dependency is called out.
Why the hook to SP1? Will IE9 leverage some super-secret awesomeness that Microsoft has kept hidden from prying eyes? Probably not. But if you're going to run a shiny new browser, why not run it on the most up-to-date version of your OS that's available?
Interestingly (or not), there's no mention of Vista in the post. Of course, Vista users ought to either have installed Vista SP2 by now or upgraded to Windows 7 anyway, right?

Microsoft has been reaching out to various sites to shed some light on the situation. In reality, SP1 will not be required:
"Internet Explorer 9 will work on Windows 7 RTW and Windows 7 SP1. When you install Internet Explorer 9 on a system that has Windows 7 RTM installed, additional operating system components are included as part of the installation of Internet Explorer 9. Those 'additional operating system components' will be part of Windows 7 SP1. Either way, this will be a seamless process for the user. Just wanted to make sure you had the latest."

Don't say we didn't warn you. The Apple iPad is pinching and zooming its way onto Target shelves starting October 3rd, in both WiFi / 3G and WiFi-only options. Fighting international cyber-terrorism isn't easy, but it's a mission on which we can all agree, right? Not so fast.
Russia has been pushing a proposal in The United Nations agency for information technology, which describes the greatest cyber-threat not as hacking or stealing but as using the Internet to spread ideas that might undermine a country. Russia wants any such use of the Internet classified as "aggression," and hence illegal under the UN Charter.
Sounds like China right? Yes, but check out this awfully teal map of countries that agree. It seems that a lot of the world seems more aligned with the Chinese view of controlling any information that may be considered subversive than they're aligned with the high-minded Western ideals of freedom of speech and access to information. Most notably they include the other BRICs: India, Brazil and Russia. In fact, it's Brazil that has asked Google to remove more content from the Web than any other nation this year. Brazil made more than double the requests of the next closest country, Libya.

At times, fighting with multiple CAPTCHA codes is more painful than having to hear "Party in the U.S.A." playing on the radio for the umpteenth time in a single day. I understand the point of a CAPTCHA, but there have just been too many times where the squashed, skewed letters are far too mangled to comprehend.
Enter Solve Media, who think they've got a solution which is not only superior, but profitable. Instead of letter soup, Solve wants websites to display their ad-powered codes. "Browse Safer." Yep, I can read that -- and I'm not bothered at all by the advertisement.
That's a trade-off I'd be willing to make every time. What about you?

Nitro PDF Reader is a powerful, free Adobe Reader alternative

There are all sorts of compelling reasons to try an alternative PDF reader, security not being the least. Adobe Reader is also quite stingy with its functionality - you can't even annotate PDFs.
Nitro PDF Reader is an alternative reader with a modern-looking interface, and it offers generous annotation options. Unlike Foxit Reader, Nitro doesn't appear to watermark your PDF when you annotate it. You can highlight sections of the document, add text, add sticky-notes, and stamp your signature (not a digital signature - just a scanned one).
If you're lucky, you may also be able to extract graphics and text from your PDF. Ironically, I was unable to extract the images from Nitro's own sample PDF (the Welcome file that comes with the reader). Another thing you should know is that it's quite a memory hog. I tried the same document with both Foxit and Nitro; Foxit clocked in at 8MB, while Nitro consumed a whopping 63MB. Again, this is for the same exact one-page document. This is even more than Acrobat Reader 9.3, which consumed 50MB for that same document.

Joby's Gorillapod Video breaks cover at Photokina, complete with swivel arm
Joby has pretty much set the standard for portable, flexible, curious looking tripods, and while it has evolved over the years to include support for bulky DSLRs, it hasn't really made the same strides to cover the burgeoning pocket camcorder realm. Until today. Here in Köln, the outfit used Photokina as a launching pad for their newest portable tripod, the Gorillapod Video. For all intents and purposes, this is a classic Gorillapod with an omni-directional positioning video head, an extension arm for pans and tilts and magnetic feet for connecting it to your nearby barn. There's a small button on the head that allows the swivel arm to collapse for even easier travel, and during our moments with it here on the show floor, we were duly impressed with how it held the pocket camcorder strapped on top of it. Google shutting down Reader's page change tracker for sites with no RSS feed

You may not have known about it, but Google Reader has a pretty slick feature which allows you to subscribe to any page -- even one without an RSS feed. When the page is updated, it'll appear in your unread Reader items. At least, it will until September 30th.
Google has announced that they're shutting down the tracker service, and it's not a complete shocker. My results with it were never that good -- pages I had subscribed to often changed multiple times and I never received an alert.

Roku launches revamped HD, XD, and XDS players, starting at $59
We've been wondering what Roku had up its sleeve after the FCC leaked the Roku XD and XDS following Apple's $99 Apple TV announcement, and it looks like those earlier price cuts were just the beginning: the new Roku lineup starts at just $59 for the basic WiFi HD streamer with HDMI and composite outputs. That's basically impulse-purchase territory if you're looking for a quick way to get Netflix, Amazon Video on Demand or one of Roku's 75 other channels on your TV. The $79 Roku XD adds in 1080p streaming support for channels with 1080p content, and the top-of-the-line $99 XDS adds in a USB port for future local playback support, component video and optical audio out, and dual-band 802.11n WiFi. All three boxes share the same new slimmer case, while the XD and XDS get a new sleeker remote with new instant-replay and info buttons. Bookeen's multitouch-equipped Cybook Orizon e-reader to launch next month
Bookeen's been touting its Cybook Orizon e-reader since CES in January, but it looks like it's now finally, actually nearing a release. According to the company, the device will be available in "mid-October," and it'll boast a 6-inch multitouch screen with "reading quality close to that of paper." That screen is apparently based on SiPix's so-called "Caress touch ePaper" technology, and packs a 167 dpi resolution and 16 levels of gray. Otherwise, you'll get built-in WiFi and Bluetooth (no 3G option), plus 2GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot for expansion, 150 pre-loaded books (presumably public domain), and a web browser that promises "unrestricted" access to the sites of your choice. Word Domination helps you become a crossword puzzle monster

Quick, I need an eight-letter word that starts with B, and letter six is R! Any ideas?
If questions like this make you draw a blank, Word Domination can come in very handy the next time you're struggling with those last few words of a crossword puzzle. It gave me 97 different results for this particular query, including "bescorch" and "bevatron."
I wasn't really sure what a bevatron was, so I clicked the word. Word Domination then transported me to the bevatron word page, where I discovered that it's a historic particle accelerator. Now I feel a bit less ignorant, because it's more of a proper noun that "just a word." But I guess that, somewhere in the world, a sadistic crossword puzzle author might call for "historic particle accelerator, six letters, horizontal."
Word Domination comes up with more ordinary words, too. The list is sorted alphabetically - not by frequency. The whole site feels very clean, modern, and fun to use. There's a "simple mode," too, which supports the asterisk wildcard (like b*tron) and doesn't make you specify the number of letters that the results should contain.

Trek Support backpack promises to keep its contents charged

In terms of blog networks, no one ever seems to talk about Google, but they actually have one of the biggest. The search giant has well over 100 blogs devoted to everything from general company news to niche things that only webmasters will care about. And with over 100 different blogs pumping out a wide variety of content, it can be hard to keep up with all the Google news. That's why Google has created Google New.
Google New, not to be confused with Google News, their news aggregation property (which turned 8 today, coincidentally), is a landing page that gives you a quick overview of the latest news from all the various Google blogs. The default view is to show snippets from the latest blog posts in reverse�chronological�order, but you can also tailor the experience to be just about things you actually care about. At the top of the page is a big area that allows Google to showcase something particularly newsworth -- in this case, Google Instant.

Twitter onMouseOver flaw poses huge risk to users, is being actively exploited

Sophos Labs' Graham Cluely posted this morning about a nasty little Twitter security flaw that is being actively exploited. Twitter apparently doesn't block onMouseOver JavaScript code, which (you guessed it!) kicks in when your mouse pointer passes over a specially crafted link.
What happens next is up to the creator. It could be something harmless like the alert box you see above, or it could just as easily be a rogue antivirus pop-up or some nasty porn site. Again, you don't need to click -- you simply have to mouse over a link. As Cluely points out, all Twitter really needs to do is block the OnMouseOver text from being displayed.
TweetDeck reminds users that this exploit doesn't affect third-party clients. Unless you're using twitter.com, you should be totally safe.
At this point, probably 70% of the users I question about how they got an infection are telling me that they were fine until they clicked something from a friend on Facebook or Twitter. I'm starting to think those two sites are going to play cat-and-mouse with Adobe Reader and the Flash Player plug-in for the "who can cause the most malware infections" crown.

At this point, probably 70% of the users I question about how they got an infection are telling me that they were fine until they clicked something from a friend on Facebook or Twitter. I'm starting to think those two sites are going to play cat-and-mouse with Adobe Reader and the Flash Player plug-in for the "who can cause the most malware infections" crown.

Clear WiMAX is live in New York City (updated: semi-live)
Sprint and Clearwire's WiMAX service has been making occasional cameos throughout the five boroughs since at least June, but now it's official: the service has been launched, closing up one of the most conspicuous holes in coverage so far. This matches up nicely with the San Francisco go-live we reported on earlier today, so you'll now be able to take your red eye from the Big Apple to the City by the Bay without fear that your EVO's going to get slow when you go wheels-down. Plans run from $25 a month (for the iSpot) all the way up to $55 for a mixed-mode WiMAX and EV-DO data stick, which works out to somewhere between 0.00001 and 0.0003 percent of your housing costs in Manhattan. Glass is half full, y'know.

The app ties in to your Meebo account, giving you in-app access to your buddy list, chat history, and even chats you had open before you stepped away from your desktop and signed in via your mobile. As CNet points out, the app currently lacks file and photo transfer options -- which would make it much more appealing.
Still, for chatting with friends on just about any instant messaging app, Meebo is a good option -- especially if you want to use the same app on all your devices.

Fring introduces cheap calling to any phone with fringOut

Sanofi-Aventis debuts iBGStar blood glucose meter for iPhone
It's not the first to announce a blood glucose meter that connects to an iPhone, but Sanofi-Aventis has just rolled out what's surely the most streamlined solution to date. Unlike the LifeScan Bluetooth glucose meter shown off during Apple's iPhone OS 3.0 preview event way back in March of last year, this one connects directly to your iPhone (or iPod touch), and it can even be kept permanently attached with the aid of a custom (and fairly stylish) case. Leica V-Lux 2 looks like an FZ100, shoots like an FZ100, costs a lot more than an FZ100
Continuing today's series of rebadged Panasonic shooters, let us welcome the Leica V-Lux 2. As we noted yesterday when we spotted and photographed what was still unannounced hardware, this camera is pretty much a standard issue FZ100, only outfitted with a red dot logo and more highfalutin marketing language. Let's not let that detract from what's an appealing shooter, however: a 14 megapixel CMOS sensor can be brought 24 times closer to the action thanks to a superzoom lens, while an 11fps burst mode and 1080i video recording will cause a few of your DSLR-sporting buddies to look on in envy. Twitter Patches Security Hole, Introduces Two Cool New Features To #NewTwitter
Twitter was taken by storm earlier today due to a cross-site scripting vulnerability, exploits of which spread like wildfire on the micro-sharing network. The company issued a statement a short while ago, saying the security flaw was identified and now fully patched.

Blue announces Mikey for Flip condenser mic
Get ready for a wave of Designed for Flip accessories that take advantage of Flip Ultra HD's new FlipPort expansion port, people. First out of the gate is the Blue Mikey, which we'd heard about from Cisco already -- it's a condenser mic that plugs into the bottom of the Ultra and provides better audio, with automatic sensitivity, a mic-in jack, and a tripod mount. It's powered by an AAA battery, which is sort of lame -- we'd love to see something like this with a battery built-in that can charge the camera as well. Oh well, we can dream. The Mikey will run $69, but we don't know when it'll hit apart from a "debut" at CES 2011, which could mean almost anytime in the next year. She launched her first startup at 13, graduated from high school at 15, debuted InternshipIN in 2008 and most recently founded inDinero, a financial management site that promises to be the Mint for small businesses.
With that kind of resume, it's no wonder that Mah has been seen as a teen to watch for quite some time, but with her latest venture, inDinero, she's finally making a legitimate play for the big leagues. In our TechCrunch TV interview (see video ahead), Mah discusses her latest funding round, how she picked her collection of 20 angel investors and why she doesn't want inDinero to follow Mint's path.

BlackBerry Storm3 caught on camera?
Theoretically, we think this could just be a really well-executed Photoshop mashup, but considering how good RIM is at keeping industrial design elements consistent from device to device, we tend to believe this alleged shot of a BlackBerry Storm3 in the wild. Specs are said to include a 3.7-inch display -- up significantly from the Storm2's 3.2-inch example and better suited to take on 2010's top-tier touchphones -- along with 8GB of onboard storage. We'd also heard in the past that the Storm3 would be slated for BlackBerry 6, a 5 megapixel cam, and a late-2010 launch on Verizon, and the new rumor of integrated mobile hotspot functionality would corroborate that a bit since Big Red's really pushing that feature as a plan add-on these days. IE Restorator fixes common Internet Explorer problems
Filed under: Microsoft, BrowsersOver at The Windows Club, a user has contributed a handy little utility, which takes care of some common problems that affect Internet Explorer.
IE Restorator can reset Internet Explorer to its default settings, re-register both 32 and 64-bit version of IE, and perform Winsock resets and flush the DNS cache.
It's also totally portable and makes an excellent addition to your flash drive or network share. As both a technician and "the friend who knows computers," I've had to perform these actions manually more times than I care to count. Restorator makes them as easy as clicking a button -- just make sure you right-click and run as administrator to avoid any permission issues.
